Baradise Escape Major 3D Progress Update


About 1.5 months ago, I made the drastic decision to switch the game to 3D due to ~ reasons (for more specifically, it was posted on the Patreon page, I think that was a free public post if you want to see further). Anyway, 1.5 months later,  the progress this month has been very satisfying to me. So here I am to relay some progress!

The characters in 3D!

With the help of my older sibling for the 3d model (I’m only in-charge of painting the textures. The muscles, hair shading are all painted to achieve the half anime look), we’ve finished making the characters for: Ragnar, Citali, Mads, Alan (the MC), and Lex!

The great thing is, as I’m using handpainted textures for the shadow, I don’t have use any expensive lighting technique, which hopefully improves performance and minimize the technical requirement.

Still not 100% happy with the portrait position. Do you think it’s too big? I end up not displaying the MC’s portrait because screen is too cramped otherwise.

Anyway, I’m really happy with the result so far. Definitely a lot better than what I expected it would be. And I hope you guys think so too!

Even better, the characters can already be animated!

We can have nice animation like sitting in front of the campfire, different combat animation depending on the equipped tool, and more! (I haven’t found a nice sex animation pack yet, but that’s definitely on the to-do-list ;))

Magic

I’ve also implemented simple magic system!

Combat

I’ve made it so when you change equip, your combat animation is also changed.

The only thing I’m still sad about is, I still haven’t figured out how to animate the character’s faces yet! I think it’s to do with blendshapes or something like that. It’s pretty low on the priority list, so I’ll finish up the essential stuff first before learning more about them :)

Enemies

I’ve made simple enemies of two type: aggressive and passive animals (reusing the same AI logic as before).

Animated water, grass, and simple landscape

This is a placeholder map so far, but I’ve figured out how to make pretty looking water and swaying grass. And also a simple terrain with auto shading (this terrain is not painted manually, but instead using height and slope blending technique using shader code).

Anyway! After this month, I really believe the move to 3D is the right direction! Adding enemies, animations etc is a lot easier to do (previously, I was too lazy to add new gameplay because there would be yet another animation to draw ~0~). Even with not much effort put into making the map, it is a lot easier to make it look good.

Hope to make another devlog next month! (hopefully managed to accomplish enough to make a good enough post :o)

This is actually really cool! The progress looks really good

As a 3D artist, this looks amazing! Now I really want to try the game again, any date for new demo?
